The aim of the Kanji Reader is to help you better learn kanji, i.e. the Sino-Japanese ideographs used in the Japanese writing system. What are Kanji?

Kanji are the heart of the Japanese writing system. The Japanese language counts around 6,000 Kanji in use but only 3,000 are commonly used in every-day life. That means that there are indeed 3,000 characters to know if you want to read Japanese as a Japanese person. However, only 1,945 Kanji are enough if you want to read most of written references. Fortunately, Japan21, a Japanese high-technology company finally created THE tool for every Kanji learner (and by extension of course every student of Japanese): the Kanji Reader.
