A number of years ago I had written to the Israeli manufacturer of the Quicktionary asking them to develop a device that could scan Japanese characters, Kanji. At the time, the complexity of Kanji characters made it too difficult for the manufacturer. However, I was delighted to discover they kept with the challenge and came out with the Kanji Reader.
I am very impressed with the accuracy that the scanner is able to read the Kanji. It is also a great help to have the readings of Kanji and the English translation as a bonus.
My only hope for future development would be for larger dictionaries. (Like the 'Green Queen'- the Kenkyusha Japanese-English Dictionary (the unabridged version). For a Japanese dictionary the more popular Kojien would be wonderful.
Even with the small size of the current dictionaries, however, the Kanji Reader has been able to provide readings for about 98% of the Kanji I look up.
I would highly recommend the Quicktionary2 Kanji Reader to anyone that needs to work with Japanese printed text. :)
Cheers! :)
