Even a quick look at kanji reader is enough to value the power of this great device. It is relatively small, ergonomic, and truly easy to use. As a software engineer, I am amazed with the high quality of kanji recognition software. Well, occasionally I have to scan a certin kanji several times, but the recognizer it is still beyond my expectations. So the biggest "pro" is the fact that the device just works as it should.
There are, though, two "contra" things that the potential user should be aware of. The first one is a small, low-resolution screen, which I consider a major disadvantage. Nowadays, even cheap MP3 players have much better screens. Maybe it is still fine for native Japanese speakers, but I personally have difficulties with reading kanji from this screen. First you scan some kanji, then you try to understand whether the screen shows the same symbol or not. Another disadvantage is relatively bad Japanese-to-English dictionary. It does not know some very basic words, and it has no text-to-speech capability. So while the device itself can pronounce a word, it does not work with Japanese. And there is no way to change/update the built-in dictionary.
So I hope to see the further development of this nice gadget!
